Life gets in the way
This has been an extraordinarily distracting time for me recently. Family concerns, changes in my business, and other groups … a whole lot going on!
“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.” – John Lennon (perhaps)
So my task right now is to enjoy life as it’s happening, and to not try to fight it. Right?
Well, I’m not going to completely throw away my goals and just “go with the flow.” There are certain places where that’s just fine, but other goals are just too important.
So one of the great tools is to consciously decide what to:
- Defer – it’s OK if it happens later
- Delegate – There’s some else who would be better for this
- Dismiss – Perhaps it doesn’t need to be done at all
But there’s another choice that people sometimes miss – so I’ll call it Diminish. I have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be, so maybe 20% of something will get me 80% of the results.
But then Do it and just get it out of the way so I can stop fretting about it.
I blog regularly on this topic on a site called The Values Based Business. If you find this article interesting…
