Time to have a life!
It’s wonderful to be the boss, right? You get all the recognition and glory while your people do all the hard work.
Yeah, I don’t see that either.
The truth is that if you want to have time for your life, in any position at all, you have to create it.
Even people with traditional 8-to-5 jobs, where you can leave the work when you go home, can get pulled into all kinds of obligations and timewasters. So it’s good to be intentional about it.
And “time management” is a poor label for it. Nobody can manage time; it just does what it wants to. Regular as clockwork.
No, it’s about managing your own attention. You want better relationships with your kids? Give your full attention to them. “Quality time.”
You want to advance toward your business goals? Pay more full attention to them. Think about them. Talk with people about them. The needle will start moving.
And if you want the ability to take the summer to sail the Atlantic, start paying attention to what it will take. Develop your people so you don’t have to be indispensable. Build up your skills and finances.
Because your life will disappear whether you want it to or not. A day at a time, regular as clockwork.
I’ve developed a tool which helps leaders to assess how they’re doing on these foundational elements. I’ll send you a customized report when you fill it out, giving you some feedback and ideas for where your attention might give the most powerful results. Check it out!
